This viewpoint offers a great view over the four towers of the Covered Bridges and the district La Petite France. One can also see the Saint-Thomas church and, naturally, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg.
The fortification was built under the order of Sébastien Le Prestre Marquis de Vauban (1633-1707) as a part of his defense strategy. Sluice gates made it possible to gather the water and route it via the southern fortification of Strasbourg.
